Calling All Jitterbugs!
The Bill Elliott Swing Orchestra
1997 Wayland Records

OK jitterbugs, yuz better be swingin' down to yer nearest music store and pickin' up dis album cats! This is definitely a standout recording by a standout band. I challenge anybody out there to find a more authentic sounding swing band in this neo-swing era. Composer/songwriter/arranger/piano player Bill Elliott, who fronts a 15-piece orchestra with 5 vocalists, is the epitome of authentic swing! The composition and arrangements on this album are absolutely beautiful as are the vocals (featuring many different artists - mainly Bill's "Lucky Stars" quartet). There are some great features on this album not commonly found in modern swing recordings: mics are used sparingly - there isn't one for each instrument - and there's only one used for "The Lucky Stars" quartet. This is what gives the album that great retro sound! 14 tracks, 13 originals with songs from the movies Independence Day, Killer, and Dick Tracy to name a few. For more info on the band, check out their website.

Very bad. Everything about this sucks. Unless you're a DJ and absolutely
have to own everything just for the sake of having it - PLEASE don't
buy it!!! |

Not the bottom of the pile, but close. While there are some positive
features - either sound quality, content, or the music itself are poor. |

Good recording. This falls under the category of CDs that you take out and dust off every once in a while for the few good tracks that are on it. You won't love it - but you won't hate it either. |

Very good selection. Music that falls under this category comes from a
good sounding band(s), has good recording quality and arrangements. Lacks only a distinctive sound or energy to leap to the realm of
greatness. This is a must have. |
