Armed and Swingin'Hipster Daddy-O and the Handgrenades 1998 Slimstyle Records
I never thought 90's grunge-rock and swing could combine, but somehow these guys manage to do it. The CD opens with a gangster-type in the RCR style informing you about how lucky you are to have bought this album. Now for most bands this would be an unforgivable display o' hubris but I was willing to give them a shot. I fired up my trusty CD player onto the first track and let 'er rip. From track one to the end these guys play their hearts out. Most of the songs work, especially if you're a jiver or ECS dancer. Woe to those who want to lindy to this stuff. They try some experimental stuff including the track 'Halfway to Elvis' which doesn't quite make it. That being said, songs like Swamp Thang and Cigar Smoke rip up the joint, and make this worth a listen, both of them are on my heavy-rotation when I'm spinning. All in all, this is a completist's CD, unless you like metal or hard rock mixed with your swing. If that's the case, run to the local record shop and start head-banging while rockstepping right now!
