CD Reviews
by Big Vic Vega
Walk On Fire
Royal Crown Revue
1999 SideOne/Dummy Records

OK cats - dat's dat! Big Vic's comin' back wit yet another RCR review. Alot's gotta be said 'bout the only damn band out there dat can haul my ass out o' retirement to review their stuff. That should say it all - but if youz know me you knowz that I gotz ta say more! I would like to know how in the hell RCR does it - how do they manage to make even the slowest, chillest, most smoothe sailin' songs so hard edged and badass! It's gotta be Eddie's singin' style and voice. "Walk On Fire" is unequivocally one of their best albums to date. To understand RCR's style - go get yerself a blender kid - recipe is as follows:
- 1 cup great retro sound
- 1 cup modern hard rock energy
- Equal parts: hard-edged upbeat tunes and cool cruisin' hits
- 2 cups cool crooninı vocals - chilled and slightly beaten
- ½ cup humor
- 2 ½ tbsps New York style wiseguy accent
- 1 tbsp Mexican influence or to taste.
Still can't figure it out kids? Go and buy yerselves the damn album! Maybe then you'll figure it out, pan head! It all comes down to dis cats - either you dig RCR, which would make you a hard-hittin' cool ass wiseguy - or you don't, which would make you a smart-alleck dead-beat that probably digs Cherry Poppin' Daddies o' sumthin'!
For all you dancers out there: East Coast Swing - only 3 tracks - but 2 are some of the best songs on the album! Lindy and triple swing (like I care - hehe): 3 tracks. 12 tracks total. 10 originals. Vic's picks: "Beware", "Watts Local", "Watcha Doin' Tonight", "She Walks On Fire".

Very bad. Everything about this sucks. Unless you're a DJ and absolutely
have to own everything just for the sake of having it - PLEASE don't
buy it!!! |
  |
Not the bottom of the pile, but close. While there are some positive
features - either sound quality, content, or the music itself are poor. |
   |
Good recording. This falls under the category of CDs that you take out and dust off every once in a while for the few good tracks that are on it. You won't love it - but you won't hate it either. |

Very good selection. Music that falls under this category comes from a
good sounding band(s), has good recording quality and arrangements. Lacks only a distinctive sound or energy to leap to the realm of
greatness. This is a must have. |

Murderistic! Killa' Dilla'! This is a real stand-out recording by a stand-
out band. This is a "should already have" for all of you hepcats out
there. If you don't already have it - GET IT!!! Or you'll have to answer
to Big Vic Vega!!! |
